DSP10    features

DSP can be set for conventional loops or Diablo's 'Miniloop' single point detector on DIP 8. There are 10 sensitivity settings on a rotary control. DSP10 is shipped 'Fail safe' but can be changed inside.

There are two form C relays on the same channel. Relay A is set for presence. Relay B is programmable for 4 functions, including pulse on arrival on the loop and pulse on leaving the loop.

Although frequency is a function of road loop geometry, there are 4 broad frequency settings to avoid cross interference with neighbouring loops.

Sensitivity boost is another standard function for high bed vehicles. All inputs and outputs are isolated from supply and each other.

3 1600ppm
4 1200ppm
5 800ppm
6 600ppm
7 400ppm
8 300ppm
9 200ppm

PPM means parts per million. 4800 PPM is the same as 0.47%

DSP10    DIP functions

DIP 1 is a filter for brief activation of the loop. It must be activated for at least 2 secs before the relay switches, so excluding fast transit or spurrious activation.

DIP 2&3 is used to extend a presence detection. For eaxample, it can prevent a barrier arm decending between a car and a trailer.

DIP 4  sensitivity boost is a hysterisis function. While a vehicle is detected, sensitivity is increased. The theshold for un-detect is lower. It is used for lorries whose tractor has a high mass, but the trailer has a high bed.

DIP 5&6 set relay B function. Options include a loop fail output.  Relay A will also close if a loop fault is detected in the default 'failsafe' mode.

DIP 7 sets ambient creep. As conditions change a detector adjusts over time. Ambient ferrous objects will be nulled out over 30 mins when DIP7 is OFF, or over several days when DIP 7 is ON.

DIP 9&10 set 4 frequency options, though the exact frequency is set by the physical layout of the loop.

The DSP-11 detector is a plug and play detector that self-adapts to most installations. There are no user adjustable settings on this detector.

This micro-sized detector automatically adjusts sensitivity to suit the loop size. It employs special techniques to avoid loop cross-talk with other DSP11 detectors so frequency settings are not needed.

INDICATORS
The green 'power' LED blink once per second in normal operation. It will flash slowly for an open circuit loop, and quickly for a shorted loop.

The red 'detect' LED will indicate the status of the relay output, on for detect.

DSP20 is a dual channel loop detector on a standard 11 pin base. The pinout options make it a drop in replacement for  the 4 most common industry standard wiring patterns. Functions are set on a 12 way DIP switch. Outputs are limited to N/O contacts, but are isolated from supply and each other.

DSP20    options

This 11 pin base detector is available in 3 voltage ranges, US standard 60Hz mains, European 50Hz mains, and the universal low voltage. Power is always on pins 1&2.

Dual detectors only have Form A outputs, meaning N/O.  or N/C, but all loop inputs and outputs are isolated from supply and each other.

There are also 4 pinout options that suit the 4 most common wiring shemes. Order with the suffix letter to denote pinout option.

DSP20    switch functions

The detector functions are set on a 12 way DIP switch. There are 4 sensitivity settings per channel, set on 2 pairs of DIP switches. Frequency is set by the physical layout of the loop, but it is best to set one loop to high and the other to low.

Each channel can be set for set for presence, or a single 150ms pulse output. Presence has a default time, but can be set infinite presence (for both channels) on DIP3.

Sensitivity boost (DIP4) is a hysterisis function. When a vehicle is detected the sensitivity is increased so that the theshold for un-detect is lower. It is necessary for lorries, where the tractor has a high mass, but the trailor has a high bed.

If the road loop should fail, the detector will detect the fault. Fail safe mode ensures the relay contact is closed circuit. In fail secure mode, the relay contact is open circuit in the event of a fault.

Two loops can detect the direction of travel by recording which loop is passed over first. In directional mode, the 1st loop to be crossed gives a pulse, but not the scond.

DSP21    dual detector for parking

The DSP-21 Series Detector was developed for parking industry, where accurate vehicle counting is required. DSP21 has the dual inductive loops necessary to detect vehicle direction.

The DSP-21 Series Detector was designed to retrofit into existing locations that may require a detector upgrade. This detector's algorithms are proven offer substancial improvement in count accuracy leading to revenue gains.

Available with N/O or N/C or opto-isolated solid state outputs.

DSP21    features

Two loops can detect travel direction by noting which loop is passed over first. In directional mode, the first loop to be crossed gives a pulse, but not the second.

DSP21 can operate in one of four selectable modes selected by DIP 1&2. The channels can act independantly, or be used for directional sensing. The two channel directional counting mode is the real differentiator from other dual detectors. This detector is designed to accurately count passenger vehicles.

The detector includes a count testing mode that forces a channel to output a known number of counts every minute. This can be very useful during system start-up and troubleshooting.

The detector analyzes vehicles to improve itself and adjusts for changes in vehicle traffic. Alternative count modes allow the installer to optimise for counting situations.

Available with N/O or N/C or solid state outputs. The N/O version is most popular for counting application.

DSP21    switch functions

The functions are set on a 12 way DIP switch.

Sensitivity boost (DIP4) is a hysterisis function that applies to both channels. When a vehicle is detected the sensitivity is increased so that the theshold for un-detect is lower. Useful for lorries or cars towing.

DIP3 sets fail mode. The detector can sense a road loop failure. In fail safe mode, on a fault, the relay contact is closed. In fail secure mode, on a fault, the relay contact is opened.

2 loops can detect travel direction by noting which loop is passed over first. In directional mode, the 1st loop to be crossed gives a pulse, but not the 2nd.

Loop diagnostics

Most problems are loop faults. Inspect the ground around the loop for surface break up. To check for open circuit loops, un-plug the connector, then check resistance with a digital test meter. Resistance should be less than 100 ohms.

A temorary loop can be made with 15m of single core cable laid on top of the road surface. It will be sensitive to small movements but stable enough to test the detector module.  If this solves the problem you may need to replace the loop.

Loop installation is a well established road technique. We have published articles on this website. There are links below.
